The Strikers play again on Friday, July 1 against SoCal Dutch Lions FC at Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach and close out the regular season on the road on July 3 versus San Diego Parceiro Ladies at Madison High School.
The win on Wednesday gives the Strikers a 6-0-0 record that matches what they did in 2021 when the team won the division in its first year as a member of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. Despite the fact that the second-place team, So Cal Union FC, can finish tied in points if they win their final game and the Strikers lose both of their remaining matches, the vast goal differential tiebreaker still gives San Diego the title.
The next task for the Strikers is to finish as the top seed in the Western Conference ahead of LA Surf Soccer Club, which currently leads the Coastal Division standings with 16 points thanks to five wins and a draw in its six matches played.
If San Diego can win their final two regular-season games, not only does the team, led by head coach Ray Taila, earn the top seed in the conference, but also the top seed in the entire west region since all the other contenders have suffered either a loss or a draw this season.
